Takata Airbag Recall: A Serious Safety Concern
Updated info and list of vehicles effected.

NHTSA warns 7.8 million cars, trucks & SUVs are impacted by the Takata airbag recall. Takata could be facing legal action.

The Takata airbag recall is serious. The issue could cause metal fragments to be shot into vehicle passengers in the event of a crash where the airbags are deployed. There have been at least 139 reported injuries across all auto makers, as reported by the New York Times. There have been at least two deaths and 30 injuries in Honda vehicles alone.

Honda and Takata are in a tough spot and could face legal action. As reported by Times, Honda has known about the issue since 2004, but failed to notify the NHTSA in previous recall filings. What's more, Takata apparently conducted secret tests off work hours to verify the problem. When the problem was validated, the engineers were ordered to destroy the data and dispose of the physical evidence.

David Friedman, deputy admin of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, said that the government contacted Takata about expanding the recall, which would affect additional vehicles produced 2008 and before.

This recall involves some BMW, Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru and Toyota vehicles, with the possibility of other automakers being added later. NHTSA at this point, is not aware how many total vehicles will be involved. They are requesting additional data from Takata to determine the full scope of the airbag issue.

How do I know if my car is effected?
